A Local Washington, DC Food Tour — Done the Way I Wish More Tours Were

This is the About page for my small-group Washington, DC neighborhood food tour you can book directly with me

Hi, I’m Tim.

I’m a longtime Washington, DC local, and I’m the founder and the only guide behind Drink•Eat•Walk DC — a small‑group neighborhood food and drink walking tour built around local restaurants, real conversations, and stories that explain why DC feels the way it does.

A Small-Group DC Food & Drink Walking Tour, Led by a Local

I created Drink•Eat•Walk because I love taking food tours when I travel — but I was always frustrated by how rushed, impersonal, or surface‑level many of them felt. Too many stops. Too many people. Too little context.

So I built the tour I wanted to take here in DC.

What Drink•Eat•Walk DC Is — And Isn’t

Drink•Eat•Walk DC is not a bus tour. It’s not a monuments tour. And it’s not a sprint through a dozen quick bites.

Instead, it’s a relaxed, roughly four‑hour evening that combines:

  • A neighborhood walking tour
  • A progressive dinner at seated restaurants
  • A social night out with a small group

We walk through parts of Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan, and nearby neighborhoods — places locals actually go at night — while stopping at long‑standing, independently owned restaurants to eat, drink, and talk.

The pace is intentional. The groups are small. The goal is to slow down and actually understand the city.

Why This DC Food Tour Is Different

Most Washington, DC food tours focus on quantity: more stops, more samples, more movement.

Drink•Eat•Walk DC is built around quality and connection.

  • Small groups (max 8 guests) — conversations feel natural
  • Three seated restaurant stops — real portions, real plates, real drinks
  • One local guide — I personally lead every tour
  • Stories with context — not memorized trivia or scripted jokes

Because I run the business and guide the tours myself, there’s no hand‑off, no rotating staff, and no franchise feel. You’re getting one person’s deeply considered take on DC.

The Food, Drinks & Neighborhoods

Food is the entry point — but it’s not the whole story.

On a typical Drink•Eat•Walk DC tour, guests enjoy:

  • Chesapeake‑style oysters and local seafood
  • Salvadoran pupusas from a neighborhood institution
  • Ethiopian food served family‑style on injera
  • A classic DC dessert

Each restaurant stop includes a recommended alcoholic drink, with non‑alcoholic options always available.

Just as important as what we eat is why it’s here — immigration, embassies, politics, activism, and how restaurants became anchors for entire communities.

Who This Tour Is For

Drink•Eat•Walk DC tends to resonate most with:

  • Travelers who want a local, non‑touristy DC experience
  • Couples and solo travelers who enjoy conversation
  • Curious eaters who care about culture as much as cuisine
  • Locals who think they already know DC — and want to be surprised

If you’re looking for a fast checklist tour or something built around monuments, this probably isn’t it.

If you want an evening that feels like being shown around by a local who genuinely loves this city, you’ll fit right in.

About Your Guide

A person standing on a bench in a park holding a tablet, dressed in a black polo shirt and gray pants, with a green bag, water bottle, and food container nearby.

I’ve lived in Washington, DC for over half my life and have spent years taking — and evaluating — tours all over the city: history tours, architecture walks, neighborhood tours, and food tours.

Drink•Eat•Walk DC grew out of one core belief:

DC makes far more sense when you understand its neighborhoods, not just its landmarks.

I personally lead every tour, manage bookings, and work directly with the restaurants. No scripts. No substitute guides. No corporate layer.

Just me, sharing the DC I know.

Why Book Directly

When you book directly through Drink•Eat•Walk DC, you’re supporting a local, owner‑operated business — not a marketplace or aggregator.

Booking direct means:

  • The best available pricing
  • Direct communication with your guide
  • Priority access to limited tour dates

Groups are intentionally small, and tours often sell out a few weeks in advance.
