Drink•Eat•Walk DC Food Tour Business Quarterly Review — 2025 Q3

A cartoon depicting a business presentation for a food tour company, featuring a presenter holding a sign that says 'PLEASE CLAP' in front of an audience seated at a table with coffee cups.

It’s been three months since my first tour, so it’s time for a self-assessment:

👍

  1. The tour I’m running is the one I envisioned → It’s pretty much the tour I always intended to build
  2. Guests love my tours → The feedback & reviews have been astoundingly good
  3. I love giving tours → Perhaps the thing I most worried about, without ever thinking about it

👎

  1. Business is bad → Not many people have signed up for tours, and each tour hasn’t had many people on them
  2. The business is bad → My costs are too high; my price is too low; I’m not making much money
  3. I haven’t been hustlin’ enough → They key to making money in this biz is direct bookings & private tours, fed by partnerships & distribution, and I just haven’t put enough/much energy into this

I’m in the star-rating biz, though, so I guess I have to review myself through that lens:

Overall rating = ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆

Despite the negativity, I’m pretty happy with how things are going. All I really care about in this first season is building a great product, and then getting lotsa great reviews as a result. I don’t want to lose money, but am willing to invest by focusing on the tours more than the business. So, overall I’m D•E•Wing just fine.
